Get ready for the most colourful day of the year! For this year’s Elmer Day we are celebrating the themes of inclusivity and friendship that run throughout the Elmer books and honouring the life and legacy of Elmer’s creator David McKee. His was a singular voice and a shining light in children’s books, whose creations, including Elmer, Mr Benn and Not Now, Bernard, touch the lives of many generations of children around the world.

How to get involved

Everyone is invited to join in the fun for Elmer Day, and while the official date for this year’s Elmer Day is Saturday 27th May, we invite you to celebrate at a time that works for you, whether that’s sharing Elmer stories throughout the week before or hosting craft sessions during Half Term.

Download the Elmer Day Resource Pack for 2023, which contains all you need for your own celebration in a bookshop, library, classroom, at home or online.

Don't forget to share your photos on social media using #ElmerDay.

We can't wait to celebrate with you on 27th May 2023!
